Vista Service Pack II: A quiet launch for valued users
Microsoft Corp. kept their promise; now the Windows Vista Service Pack 2 is available to everyone via download from Microsoft's Web site, for both the versions of Vista (i.e. 32- and 64-bit).
Neowin.net reported the release first and Vista SP2 is now the release candidate (RC) and not Beta. The testing phase involved TechNet and Microsoft Developers’ Network.
Though a shipping date for the SP2 RC is still due, but we can expect it to be ready during the middle of this year. However, according to others like TechARP.com, it shall be sooner than that. As for now, Vista SP2 RC can be downloaded both as a fresh installation disk image (stand-alone) and an update for 64-bit systems and only as an update for the 32-bit counterparts.
However, it is best to download it through the Windows Update service because the download sizes that way shall stay within 41MB and 90MB, which is much smaller than downloading it separately as a 508MB colossus.
