Secrets of tracing unknown callers

VoIP phones have affected us common people in multiple ways; while in one hand it helps us save immense amounts o call charges, it has also made us vulnerable to harassing calls.

Adding more to this is the protocol; finding out an IP address used for making the calls is far more difficult than tracing a conventional mobile/land line phone number.

However, the way to find out whether or not a call is being made from a VoIP based phone is easy.

IP Tracers: The software-based ones can easily detect such calls with built-in caller-id detection facility; it only takes time to know the process to trace the path. It also reveals the service provider the caller is using.

Web Searches: Web searches sometimes reveals every detail on unconventional phone numbers. Although at times finding an exact match is difficult, but it shall reveal the name of the VoIP carrier. Keep a watch over the first few numbers; if they are similar, then they belong to the same service provider.

If you are suspecting the caller to be a telemarketer, you must put a complaint to certain websites who deal in resolving such matters. And if it’s someone just trying to play a prank, the 911 emergency services are well-equipped to return you the lost peace of mind.
